The SLR camera - the standard for professionals
Ever since the SLR camera arrived on the market, it has been indispensable in many areas of photography, and professionals in particular, but also ambitious amateur photographers, rely on the many advantages that such a camera has to offer. Its applications are almost unlimited and the versatility of a digital SLR camera is unmatched. Whether they are well-known sports photographers, photojournalists or wedding photographers, most of them trust in the reliability and image quality of digital SLR cameras.
There are two categories of SLR cameras in use today, which differ mainly in the size of the sensor used. Unrivaled to this day is the image quality of cameras with a full-frame sensor. The size of this sensor is based exactly on the format of a 35-millimeter film, which is already familiar from analog times. SLR cameras with an APS-C sensor have a somewhat smaller sensor, which has its advantages especially in photography with long focal lengths. With an APS-C sensor, there is a so-called "crop factor" that makes it possible to shoot with shorter focal lengths in the telephoto range. A big advantage of today's digital SLR cameras is that there is a wide range of lenses available. So it doesn't necessarily have to be a lens from the respective camera manufacturer, such as Canon, Nikon, Sony or Pentax because you can also choose a sometimes cheaper lens or one with different qualities from a third-party manufacturer. For example, here are the lens manufacturers Sigma, Tamron, Tokina and Zeiss which offer a wide range of choices for almost all popular lens bayonets. With a digital SLR camera, one is free to choose whether to shoot with a fixed focal length or a flexible and practical zoom lens.
SLR cameras for every user
SLR cameras are available for beginners, ambitious amateur photographers and professionals who earn their money as photographers. Two things are common to cameras in higher price and performance classes, namely excellent feel and good workmanship. The body of an SLR camera is shaped so that it can be held comfortably and securely in your hands, even with a larger lens. Even big names like Leica and Hasselblad are convinced of the versatility and different possible uses this practical camera enables. Depending on the sensor with which an SLR camera is equipped and the lens with which one is currently shooting, different effects can be achieved. For example, if you have a camera with a full-frame sensor and a fast lens, it's easy to distinguish the photographed object from the background. Thanks to the speed and impressive performance in continuous shooting mode, SLR cameras can literally freeze motion. Likewise, with a suitable neutral density filter, for example, it is possible to make long exposures that impress above all with a calm and gentle appearance.
Flexibility of SLR cameras
Compared to cameras with smaller sensors, SLR cameras have much better imaging performance, the full potential of which is exploited when the option of integrated raw data storage is used. This allows the photographer to exert a great deal of influence on the look of an image in post-processing, even after the shot has been taken. Thanks to proven and constantly improving technology, the battery in digital SLR cameras lasts a very long time compared to mirrorless system cameras. Meanwhile, the SLR camera with its range of available and adaptable lenses has also arrived among filmmakers. With its extensive range of accessories, the camera can be completely adapted to the needs of the user, so that it is equally enjoyable for the professional wedding photographer as it is for the amateur photographer and the ambitious filmmaker.
