Create creative ring photos easily and with little equipment - Tutorial

In this video, we show you how to take creative ring photos quickly, easily and with little equipment (for example at a wedding). Of course, other jewelry, such as medallions or cufflinks, can also be photographed in similar setups.

Our results

We made sure to keep our setups as simple as possible so that they could be set up and taken down quickly. This way, such ring photos can also be easily created at home or on-location.
In the first setup we worked with two flashes and chose a rather colorful theme.
In the second setup we relied on continuous light and implemented a rather neutral theme.

Setup 1: Flash
Setup 2: Permanent light

What equipment is needed?

Equipment is more or less irrelevant for photos like this. It's mainly about giving free rein to your creativity and getting the best out of your setup.

What you need:

  • Motif (ring, locket or other jewelry)
  • a camera, of course
  • a macro lens (or an alternative solution, such as macro extension rings)
  • a suitable background
  • 1-2 flashes (or a continuous light source, e.g. a rod light)
  • if necessary, color foils/gels (if you work with flashes)
  • Household items for the background (e.g. glasses)

We recommend using clip-on flashes, as they are very compact and flexible, and can also be used with color foils to add atmosphere to the picture
