From selfie to dronie

From the entry-level segment we have the brand new DJI Spark from the entry-level segment. Just the size of the palm of your hand, the mini quadrocopter is extremely small and easy to transport. With a take-off weight of just 300 grams, the drone can be taken almost anywhere. But the inconspicuous quadrocopter has much more to offer than just its compact dimensions. Designed as a Selife drone, the copter can be flown by remote control, smartphone or gesture control. The Spark takes off from its own hand and then waits for hand signals. Once the copter is positioned and hovers in front of you, you can have it take a photo
So every selfie really is an eye-catcher!

In addition to gesture control, the DJI Spark has other intelligent flight functions. The "Quick Shot" function known from DJI also enables beginners to create professional shots. With Tap Fly, for example, you only need to tap on the target and the quadrocopter flies directly towards it. At the same time, obstacles are detected and flown around. The mini drone is available in five stylish colors. The Fly More Bundle is available for those who do not want to do without a remote control. In addition to the remote control, it includes a quick battery charger and a spare battery.

The sky becomes your playground

If you have already gained some experience as a pilot and are now considering taking professional pictures, we have the DJI Mavic. This semi-professional drone is particularly suitable for trips and vacations where professional aerial photography is required. In addition to a 3-axis stabilized gimbal, the DJI Mavic also offers 4K videos and photos in RAW quality. The Mavic is very sporty to fly with the remote control and reaches speeds of over 60 km/h; if this is too fast for you to start with, you can easily reduce the speed on the very intuitive remote control. When ready to fly, the quadrocopter is considerably larger than the DJI Spark. However, the Mavic can be folded to a very compact size and stowed in a backpack, which is a great advantage when traveling.

Thanks to the larger propellers, the Mavic can be flown very stably even in moderate winds, which can be particularly practical in the mountains or by the sea. Of course, the Mavic also has numerous intelligent flight functions. We particularly noticed the "Tracking" function. The Mavic can track a person or an object using a GPS signal as well as optical tracking. For optical tracking, it is only necessary to mark the object in the smartphone app, and the person to be tracked does not need to have a smartphone (as a GPS signal transmitter) with them.
DJI claims a battery life of 27 minutes for its Mavic drone. In our test, we were able to achieve this relatively long flight time without any problems and found it very pleasant. We were warned in good time by the remote control or the app and were able to let the drone return to us in a relaxed manner. Especially when you are traveling, for example, this enables several flights at different locations.

Flying high with the hexacopter

For even more flight safety and stability, professional drone pilots should choose a larger model - such as the Yuneec Thyphoon H - for example. This drone is visually very different from the DJI models. This is not a quadcopter, but a hexacopter. It therefore has six propellers, which can offer even more stability and safety. The copter remains more or less unimpressed by moderate winds. The hexacopter, with its automatically folding landing gear, allows the use of heavier and better cameras, as the camera is mounted in a slide on the underside, the exchange is completely problem-free. Transporting such a large aircraft is somewhat more complicated than with the Mini Selfie Drone or the Mavic. The six rotor arms can be folded, but even then the copter with remote control still takes up quite a bit of space. So when traveling, you should definitely consider whether you can also transport such a large aircraft.

The Thyphoon H also has some exciting flight functions that take a lot of work off the pilot's hands. The flight controller with built-in screen is a particularly striking feature of Yuneec's multicopters. When you hold the remote control in your hands for the first time, you really have the feeling that you can control everything. The large display, behind which there is an Android tablet with specially tailored Yuneec software, offers many options for controlling the entire drone. In addition to customizing the entire controller, the assignment of the buttons and switches, all flight data is visible at all times and the aerial image from the 4K camera can also be checked live.

Our conclusion

We have been able to test the three drones extensively over the last few days and have had a lot of positive experiences. Each drone flies differently, so you need a certain amount of time to become familiar with it.
Each of the three drones was able to awaken the fun of flying in us. Be it the small DJI Spark, which turns every selfie into a very special highlight and has so much more to offer.
In the Mavic, the manufacturer DJI combines the latest technologies and this can be felt in the flight behavior, in the operation, but also in the video quality. It is very intuitive to control for its enormous features and gave us a very secure feeling.
The Typhoon H from Yuneec is difficult to compare with the compact copters from DJI, but we simply took a chance and were pleasantly surprised. The large remote control gives you a firm grip on everything and all flight information is always in view. Due to the size of the entire drone, it is of course not as easy to transport as the Spark or the Mavic.

Before buying a drone, we recommend that you carefully consider how and for what the copter is to be used. Based on this information, it is easy to determine the right flight model. Of course, we are here to help you with advice and support.
For every application there are also plenty of accessories, such as cases and backpacks for transportation, but also an additional battery or a car charger can double the fun of flying and extend the flight time.

We hope you enjoy flying!
